Dec 14: Five Emerging Elites named Fall 2008 Boston Globe All-Scholastics; 18 earn All League honors
Five Emerging Elites athletes were named Fall 2008 Boston Globe All-Scholastics, including four first-time winners. Emerging Elites including Emily Lanois, a senior at Hamilton-Wenham; Camille Murphy, a senior at Framingham; John Bleday, a junior at Xaverian; Tom Finneran, a senior at Thayer Academy, earned the high honors from the Boston Globe for their performances this fall on the cross country courses across New England.* All five athletes trained in the 2008 Emerging Elites Summer Program located in Chestnut Hill.
*One Emerging Elites athlete who earned All-Scholastic withheld by request.
“It’s a testament to the commitment of each athlete and their parents’ support of their athletic goals,” remarked Emerging Elites head coach Fred Treseler. “To have five Emerging Elites named All-Scholastics, including four first-time winners, in one season is truly remarkable. I congratulate them and their high school coaches on their cross country performances.”
In addition to announcing the All-Scholastics, the Boston Globe also tallied the All League honors in eastern Massachusetts. This fall eighteen Emerging Elites earned All League honors.
“Having eighteen athletes as All League honorees speaks largely to the depth of talent and the collective dedication to training within the Emerging Elites program,” commented head coach Fred Treseler. “In June, each Emerging Elites athlete committed to their goals for the fall cross country season and I’m happy that eighteen athletes were recognized by their league coaches for their cross country performances and achievement of those goals.”
“Massachusetts has a great tradition of talented high school runners and I’m fortunate to have coached some of them in the Emerging Elites program,” said Fred Treseler. “This winter could be very exciting in terms of performances as the Emerging Elites athletes transition from cross country into the indoor track season. I wish all Emerging Elites athletes a fun, fast and rewarding indoor season.”
