About
I started running when I was in 9th grade in the spring. I joined EE to further improve my running and get better times. In my free time I like to listen to music and hangout with friends.
Winter 2024-2025 Ryan Collins joined Emerging Elites during the 2024-2025 indoor track season as a recipient of the Dr. Donald Burgess Scholarship. That winter, Ryan trained twice a week with Emerging Elites at the indoor tracks at Boston University and MIT. Simultaneously, Ryan was in the middle of his Boston Latin Academy’s varsity hockey season where his team qualified for the MIAA D4 hockey post-season tournament. Although hockey was Ryan’s primary sport during winter 2024-2025, Ryan was eager to participate in his first ever season of indoor track. In a condensed and highly intentional indoor track season, Ryan ran a personal best every race he competed in. He lowered his mile PR from 4:47 to 4:38 and 800m PR from 2:23 to 2:03.
Spring 2025
Coming off an exciting indoor season, Ryan was excited to go all in on his outdoor track season. Early in May, Ryan broke 2:00 for the first time at the South Shore Principals, crossing the line 1:58.27 for first place. Ten days later, Ryan had a big day at the Boston Public Schools City Championships. Ryan was crowned the mile champion in a PR of 4:37 and 400m runner-up in a PR of 51.18. At the MIAA D2 Championships, Ryan had a breakthrough performance over 800m where he ran 1:55.41. He continued his season by qualifying for the 800m at the MIAA Meet of Champions and the New England Outdoor Track Championship, where he ran 1:56.15 and 1:57.50.
Summer 2025 Hoping to continue to gain more racing experience, Ryan decided to continue his junior year outdoor track campaign through the summer of 2025. A highly competitive and focused athlete, Ryan earned a podium spot in his first three summer races. He kicked off his summer by earning gold in a solo effort at the Bay State Games, followed by a runner-up performance in the 1500m at the USATF-NE Open and Masters Championship. At the 2025 Sunrise Classic 5000m, Ryan unleashed a dominant kick with 400m to earn gold in his 5000m debut, crossing the line in 16:06. Ryan was then selected to compete in the prestigious Tommy Cochary High School Mile as part of the Falmouth Track Festival during Falmouth Road Race weekend. Athletes are chosen to compete in the TCHS Mile based not only on time but also their character. Ryan was thrilled to be in an incredibly competitive field to test the fitness he had developed over the summer. Ryan stuck his nose into the speedy race and came away with a 11 second mile PR of 4:26.
Over the span of his junior year, Ryan lowered his mile PR by 21 seconds and 800m PR by 18 seconds. With his new level of fitness and deepened passion for the sport, he is looking forward to a strong senior year. |
