About

Brian started running cross country as a freshman at Brimmer and May. He watches footage of any race he can get his hands on, and always works to better himself as a runner. Brian is a High-Honors student and managing editor for the school newspaper. He also played lacrosse, skis, participates in Model UN, school plays and musicals.

Brian finished his high school career as the most decorated runner in MBIL history. He claimed two straight NEPTSA D4 Championships, along with three consecutive MBIL Individual Championships, League MVP honors, and Team Championships. He finished as a three-time NEPSTA “All New England” selection "All Scholastic" selection by the Boston Globe and Herald. Over his high school track career, Brian raced to some of the fastest times in the nation and in MA history in the 1500m, Mile, 3000m and 2 Mile. In his senior season, Brian captured the USATF National 5K Championship title, as well as titles at the BAA Scholastic Mile, and Adrian Martinez Classic Mile. He also finished 10th in the nation at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships in the 1500m.

Cross Country 2021

Brian won the Franklin Park Open 5K at the 2021 Mayor’s Cup, running 16:37 on the standard 5K course. He claimed the NEPTSA D4 Championship by 48 seconds and the MBIL Individual Championship, setting a course record at 15:47.

Winter Track 2022

Brian qualified for the New Balance and Nike Indoor Nationals in three Rising Star/Emerging Elite events by running 4:19:29 in the mile, 8:50:48 in the 3000m and 2:36:83 in the 1000m.

Spring Track 2022

Brian qualified for the Nike and New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the Championship Mile, 5000m and Rising Star/Emerging Elite 2 Mile by running 3:56.48 in the 1500m and 9:16.70 in the 3200m.

Brian decided to race the mile at the Nike Outdoor Nationals and raced to a 4:18.14 for 39th place at Hayward Field.

Brian stepped up and challenged himself with two races in August before his senior year by running both the Tommy Cochary High School Mile at the Falmouth Road Race and the 5000m at the Tracksmith Twilight #2 Meet at MIT. Brian raced to second place in 4:21.04, just ahead of teammate Kofi Fordjour, who placed third in 4:22.6. Brian was excited to see how fast he could go for 5000m outdoors and raced his way to a sterling 15:10 for his debut at 5000m.

Cross Country 2022

Brian won the Franklin Park Open 5K at the 2022 Mayor’s Cup, running 15:54 on the standard 5K course, which was a 43 second improvement over his winning time from 2021 and a new PR!

Brian was excited to head to New York City and his first USATF Youth 5K National Championships. As a new event held as part of the NYC Marathon weekend and the Abbott Dash to the Finish 5K, the city was buzzing with runners from around the world. Brian asserted himself from the starter’s horn and led from start to finish in a comfortable and controlled effort, crossing the finish line in 15:39, 14 seconds ahead of second place. Congrats to Brian on earning a USATF Youth 5K National Championship title!

Brian capped off his high school cross country career as the most decorated runner in MBIL history. He claimed the NEPTSA D4 Championship for the second straight year and the MBIL Individual Championship and MVP for the third straight year, helping to lead the Brimmer and May Varsity Boys to a third straight MBIL Team championship. He finished as a three-time "All Scholastic" selection by the Boston Globe and Herald.

Winter Track 2023

Brian qualified for the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the Championship Mile, 2 Mile and 5000m by running 4:14:49 in the mile, 8:22:60 in the 3000m. He ended the season with second fastest mile time in Massachusetts. His 3000m time was #1 in MA, top 15 in the Nation in 2023 and top 5 in MA history.

Spring Track 2023

Next up, Brian had his sights set on running the mile at the BSR Elite Scholastic Mile hosted by HOKA on Friday, May 5 at Marshfield High School. Racing to a 5-second mile PR and his first sub-4:10 mile, Brian stopped the clock at 4:08.94! This was a great night of racing and Brian seized the opportunity to race with a solid core of regional athletes. Many thanks to Marathon Sports, Hoka and Bay State Running for organizing this meet.

Brian swung down to NYC to race at Track Night NYC at Icahn Stadium. Racing in the Boys Scholastic mile sponsored by Powerbar on a cool, wet and windy evening, Brian was focused on racing within himself and learning new race tactics inside a pack. Brian raced his way to 7th place in 4:13.59. To make the most of his trip to NYC, Brian did his long run effort the following day at Van Cortlandt Park, gaining more time on the trails, fields and rollers to prep for future races.

Back in Massachusetts, Brian focused on getting prepped for the Open Mile at Adrian Martinez that combined the top scholastic milers with the top open athletes. This is one the best meets of the outdoor season and Brian led from gun to tape in a relaxed effort, running 4:12.35 to capture first place. Knowing that he wanted to get in a strong 2 mile effort this season, Brian focused on making his season debut at New Balance Nationals Outdoor at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. He was aiming to improve upon his lifetime PR of 9:10.70 from NBNI in March. Despite a four-hour weather delay, Brian did an amazing job of channeling his energies into 8 strong laps in the Championship 2 Mile. From the gun, Brian was committed to pushing the pace and led his section through the mile in 4:33. Brian started cranking the pace down and stopped the clock at a sterling 9:00.43, a new PR at NBNO!

Despite a short night of recovery, Brian was excited to see what energy he had in his legs. Brian laced up for his last high school nationals race in the NBNO Championship Mile and crossed the line at 4:16.96. Not a PR, but a well-earned victory lap of sorts at Franklin Field for a strong spring season!

Brian was invited to race the 1500m at La Classique d’athlétisme de Montréal, an elite meet in Montreal, Canada. Brian made the most of the opportunity and turned in one of the best races of his high school career. He remained patient and executed his power down the stretch, earning a 3 second PR in the 1500m of 3:53.06. With his performance this spring, Brian qualified for the 1500m and 5000m at the U20 U.S Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon in early July. Brian decided to focus on the 1500m and, the week after La Classique, he doubled down on training for the big stage. On Friday July 7, Brian raced in the U20 USATF Championships 1500m semifinal. He raced conservatively and closed hard to earn the time qualification in 3:53.74 for the finals on Sunday afternoon. In the 1500m final, Brian sat in the large, clustered pack and patiently waited for the race to get going. Brian closed faster than he ever had before, closing down his final 800m in 1:59 and his final 300m in 44.06 seconds to finish 10th in 3:54.71. This experience gave Brian valuable insight into tactical racing, racing in rounds, and how to run fast closing laps.
