About |
I started Emerging Elites in the winter of 2018 when I was 9 years old after discovering my love for running from my mom. Before that, I enjoyed playing soccer, swimming, biking, and just generally being active. I have always sought to challenge myself as much as possible and find so much enjoyment from the process of working hard and improving myself. As I have grown inside and outside of the sport, my love for running and training at a high level has only strengthened. Many of my favorite memories surround workouts and races and I have met so many amazing people through the sport. When I am not running, I am likely swimming, cooking, reading, or studying. I am very passionate about science and mathematics and hope to continue challenging myself in those areas in the future.

7th Grade Outdoor Season, Spring 2021 |
Abby Artabane raced in the girls middle school mile at NSAF Outdoor Nationals on July 2, 2021. In her first race at historic Hayward Field, Abby crossed the finish line in a solid 5:13.83. Abby's perfomance earned her a fantastic 9 second PR and clinched 12th place overall.

Cross Country 2021 |
Abby had a limited campaign for cross country for the fall 2021 season, focusing on four races.
She opened her season at the Mayor’s Cup 1.1 mile Girls 13-14, taking second place at Franklin Park. Abby then headed north to Mine Falls to race the USATF New England Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships where she took first place in the 13-14 Girls 4K.
At the Eastbay Northeast regionals, Abby enjoyed competing in a mixed race of 13-14 year old boys and girls. She had the best start of any of our athletes at Eastbay Northeast regionals, put herself with the top 7 boys and stayed there the entire 5K. Abby’s 19:01 at Van Cortlandt as an eighth grader was huge! Her time would have placed her 32nd in the Girls Championship Race and in that race there were only three freshman girls with faster times than Abby’s.
For her final race of the season, Abby was thrilled to toe the line at the 2021 USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships in Paris, Kentucky. After a massive storm with soaking rains, high winds and tornadoes tore through Kentucky the night before the meet, Abby was grateful for the opportunity to race on the very muddy and slippery course. After losing her footing after the start, Abby found herself in 70th and had to work her way back into the race. Incredibly, Abby finished 14th overall and was only 12 seconds out of second place! Special thanks to our fellow USATF-NE club Waltham Track Club who adopted Abby for the race, allowed her to hangout in their heated tent and duct taped her spikes on so they didn’t get sucked off her feet in the deep mud!

Outdoor 2022 |
On May 14, Abby opened her final middle school outdoor season with a PR of 5:02.27 in the 1500m at the New Balance Battle Road Twilight Meet #1. On a hot, muggy day at University of Massachusetts Lowell, Abby blazed to a new 3000m PR of 10:37.56 to finish 4th at the Battle Road Twilight Meet #2. Abby continued her streak of personal bests on June 4th when she set a PR in the 800m at the 3rd installment of the Battle Road Twilight Series, this time at Bentley University. These times qualified Abby for the middle school mile, middle school 2 mile, and middle school 800m at Nike Outdoor Nationals. Abby set the tone for the weekend with a 2 mile performance. She followed a lead group that ran 74 seconds for the first lap and hung tough with the pack to run a 2 mile PR of 11:23.53 for a 5th-place finish in the girls middle school 2 mile, her first podium finish at Hayward Field.

During the fall Abby took advantage of amazing opportunities to race hard and compete. On October 8, she ran the Boston 10K for women where she cruised to 38:24 in her 10K debut. She then ran at the Boston Mayor’s Cup in Franklin Park, finishing the 3K in 6:14 to win in her age group. To cap off the season Abby raced in the Eastbay Girls Northeast Regional Championship at the historic Van Cortlandt. On a frigid and overcast day, Abby had one of the best races of her career to that point. She hung on to the top pack of 40 runners, picking them off one by one to finish 28th in the regional championship as a high school freshman. She finished with a time of 19:28.6, which made her the fastest freshman in the race.
| Indoor 2023 |
Abby tested her range during the indoor season. Over the course of a couple months, she ran 3 lifetime personal bests that put her among some of the top freshmen in the country. She ran 3:12 in the 1000m at the GBTC Invitational, hung on to a fast field to set a PR in the mile (5:13.06) at the BU Last Chance Meet, and ran a spectacular 10:24.96 in the 3000m at Boston University’s Colyear-Danville Season Opener. These times qualified her for the Championship 2 mile, Championship 5K, freshman 800m, and freshman mile at New Balance Nationals Indoor. Abby kicked off New Balance Nationals Indoors by running 5:24.11 in the girls rising stars mile, which earned her 30th place. Abby then made her track 5K debut and, despite recovering from a head cold, she ran 18:29.24 and finished 25th in the girls championship 5K. Abby followed these two races with a solid 800m performance, running 2:30.32 and finishing in 31st.
| Outdoor 2023 |
Abby started her outdoor season at the first USATF New England Youth Mini Meet, where she ran PRs of 1:09.53 for the 400m and 2:26.82 for the 800m. The following week, Abby competed at the first meet in the Battle Road Twilight Series, where she ran a personal best of 10:33.10 in the 3000m. When presented with the chance to compete at the third installment of the Battle Road Twilight Series, Abby took advantage of the opportunity, racing to a new 800m PR of 2:25.36. Her times qualified her for the freshman mile and 2 mile at New Balance Nationals, but she did not compete due to nagging injury.
| Outdoor 2024 |
In May of 2024, Abby went down to New York to race at the Trials of Miles at Icahn Stadium. With an affinity for the longer distances and a solid period of training under her belt, Abby was eager to debut at 5000m on the outdoor track. During the race, Abby put herself in a position to compete with the front pack while finding a strong, consistent rhythm. With her efforts, Abby had a breakthrough performance, shattering her indoor 5000m PR by 52 seconds! Abby’s new PR of 17:37 reflected years of hard work put in on Heartbreak Hill, around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, and on the speedy indoor tracks of Boston.
Abby carried this positive momentum to Eugene, Oregon where she competed in the Championship 5000m at the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals.
| Fall 2024 |
After finishing second in the U20 division of the 2024 Loon Mountain Race (6 mi, 3066 ft elevation) over the summer, Abby was eager to kick off her junior fall with another mountain race. At the 2024 Waterville Valley Mountain Race (7 mi, over 3000 ft elevation), Abby powered herself up the mountain before navigating the rocky descent. On a treacherous course, Abby secured first place in the U19 division and left the mountain with a smile!
For Abby’s next race, she went to the roads to compete in the historic 2024 Boston 10K for Women. Returning back to the race where she first discovered her love for the road 10K, Abby got out strong and cruised to a first place finish in her age group. Throughout the fall, Abby continued to flourish on the roads. On a windy day at the 2024 DAV 5K Boston, Abby was the top female finisher in a comfortable 18:42. In this race, Abby was thrilled to lead her teammates and friends to an Emerging Elites 1st-3rd sweep!
When on the cross country trails, Abby proved to have her strongest cross country season yet. At the 2024 Mayor’s Cup at Franklin Park, Abby competed alongside high school, club, collegiate and post-collegiate athletes in the Championship Womens 5K where she finished 16th overall with a PR (18:36). Abby capped off her fall season with her highest placing finish at Foot Locker Northeast Regionals. On a frigid day, Abby cracked the top 30, finishing 29th!
Abby’s junior fall season was highlighted by her ability to race on a variety of terrains while being a leader amongst her peers. Abby raced well on mountains, roads and cross country trails and thoroughly enjoyed challenging herself in doing so. Abby also carried herself with maturity on our team as a veteran- she communicated well, brought a positive attitude to practice and focused on all the little things to make her successful. Great job, Abby!
| Indoor 2024-2025 |
After an exciting fall, Abby trained to kick off her indoor season at the Boston University Season Opener. Racing in the 3000m, Abby trusted her fitness and locked into her race. At the finish, Abby was thrilled to earn a new PR of 10:17! This qualified Abby for the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship 2 Mile. Congratulations, Abby!
